When it comes to selecting a tub for your bathroom, you have plenty of materials from which to choose. However, fiberglass often makes the short list of options if you’re in the market for a good basic, no-frills tub. If you purchased a home that was built around the 1990s, chances are you have fiberglass. If you aren’t planning on replacing it, consider Atlanta bathtub refinishing to at least keep it looking presentable.
Fiberglass tubs were installed in a lot of home builds because of its affordability and not necessarily its durability. Tub options made of metal such as brass, copper and cast iron were used in earlier homes to sustain over time. They were not meant to leave the home in which they were installed. But since fiberglass is an extremely budget-friendly material, homebuilders saw this as a more effective way to keep building costs down. Fiberglass and acrylic are two plastic materials that fall on the lower end of the price spectrum so it is usually the most affordable option available. If your home has an existing fiberglass tub, it doesn’t necessarily mean you should replace it.
Because fiberglass tubs are lightweight, they are thinner than other tub materials which often makes them less durable than the alternatives. Typically fiberglass has a lifespan of 10-15 yeas because the soft finish is easy to scratch or crack and over time, the finish may fade as well. However, just because fiberglass tubs have a softer finish that may be prone to scratches and cracks, it is also repairable. This means you don’t have to replace your entire tub if damage occurs. Hiring a professional resurfacing company who specializes in fiberglass repair will help you keep your tub looking new and fresh.
If your home has a tub and tile combo that is made of fiberglass, consider refinishing it instead of replacing. A professional can turn that dingy, scratched or cracked tub into new again and even turn it into a color that is more suitable to your lifestyle. Fiberglass was and still is a budget-friendly option but one that doesn’t necessarily have to be a bad choice. A professional refinishing company will come in and repair any scratches or cracks and put a fresh new surface on that will make it look brand new. If it was installed in the 1990s with a creamy almond color (or something worse), now is the time to update the color as well. You can turn it into a crisp, pristine white and have it glistening and brand new in no time.

At Top Gun Applied Surfaces, we are more than just an Atlanta bathtub resurfacing company. We can resurface almost anything! We resurface kitchen and bathroom cabinets, tile and kitchen and bathroom cabinets in your home. But did you know we are also experts in the commercial arena as well? We can resurface kitchen and bathroom surfaces in apartment complexes and hotels. Anywhere that needs resurfacing, we are at your service!
Recently, we had the task of resurfacing bathroom stalls at a pool house for an apartment complex and the results were stunning.
It wasn’t an easy feat, but we tackled it with pride and quality work. Sounds like a crazy request, right? But when you are a property manager and have an apartment complex to maintain, you want to make sure the grounds are beautifully kept and that would include the pool house bathroom as well!
Commercial resurfacing is a convenient and cost effective way to maintain properties without the added expenses of renovations.
When you are managing a property, whether it be hotel or apartment, that sees a lot of turn around, you can’t afford to renovate all the time. This is not only expensive, but can cause you to lose a lot of valuable time. And this means, less income generating rental units. We can resurface a bathtub, for example, in as little as two hours and it can be ready to use in just 24!
One of the biggest resurfacing projects we see for commercial properties is bathtub resurfacing.
Bathtubs have the most traffic whether they are in a hotel room or an apartment unit. They become dingy and worn and sometimes even chipped or cracked. But this is what Top Gun Applied Surfaces specializes in and what we have been doing successfully for years. Please browse our photo gallery on our website. You will not be disappointed with what you see and you will not be disappointed when we show you exactly what we can do for your property.
Apartment complexes see a lot of traffic.
Most often, you are ready to lease a unit after a year or two. When a tenant moves out, you need to have it professionally cleaned and often, replace carpets or other flooring. Sometimes the kitchens and bathrooms are left in disarray. But, there is no time to gut either room and start over. This is when resurfacing comes into play. Cabinets, countertops, tile and bathtubs can all be stripped and resurfaced to look brand new. All at a fraction of the cost to replace. Hotel rooms see tons of wear and tear as the turnover is even greater for these establishments. How about resurfacing 10-20 bathtubs at once and keep your clients happy and satisfied?
If you manage commercial property, give Top Gun Applied Surfaces a call today. We can usually get to you quickly for an estimate and can start your project right away. If it’s a bathtub or pool house bathroom stalls, we can cover it!
The cost of refinishing your old bathtub versus replacing is drastic. Traditional bathtub removal and replacement typical costs anywhere between $2,500 and $8,000 and will take up a large amount of time and effort. You can buy a brand new bathtub for as little as $300 at a retail hardware store, but the actual cost involved in removing and replacing your tub will likely be far greater. It involves tearing out the old tub, plumbing, wall surround and sometimes the floor. Bathtub restoration if done properly, by a professional company like Top Gun Applied Surfaces, can really save you money.
When homes are built, bathtubs are typically built around the initial construction. Most tubs are installed while the house is being built. Usually before the bathroom walls and floors are installed. So to remove that original tub, items such as bathtub surrounds, trim and plumbing that were initially built up around the bathtub will need to be removed as well. Also, depending on the tub’s size, it can also mean that removing the bathtub from the room may require cutting it into pieces to get through a door frame and dispose of properly. When installing a bathtub replacement, the plumbing would have to be reconfigured as well as the surrounding trim and walls.
Refinishing your existing bathtub is more economical and eco-friendly. The process is also time-effective. The refinishing/restoration process can take as little as 2 hours and your new tub can be used in as little as 24 hours. At Top Gun Applied Surfaces, we take your old, worn bathtub and resurface it to a brand new coating, making it look brand new, all without the additional delays of replacing.
Starting at less than $400 for a standard size bathtub, a bathtub resurfacing company can add a brand new coating to your existing bathtub, This process can save you over 80% over replacement. It would be crazy not to refinish versus replace in this tough economic climate.
Although there are do-it-yourself kits products available, they can be a disaster and cost double the price of a professional if not done properly. DIY kits will only last you approximately 3 months whereas a professional resurface is guaranteed for one year but will last for many. Stripping an old finish off a bathtub, repairing and patching any holes or cracks and making sure the room is properly ventilated from fumes produced by the process are all steps that better left to a trained professional.
Refinishing isn’t just limited to bathtubs. This process can be applied to sinks, wall tile, cabinets (both kitchen and bathroom) as well as kitchen and bathroom countertops. At Top Gun Applied Surfaces, we are trained professionals and have years of experience resurfacing countless bathtubs, tile, counters and cabinets in the Atlanta area.
Let Top Gun Applied Surfaces show you what we can do for your home without the mess of renovation. We can help give you the new, updated look you want without the hefty price tag. When quality matters, we can help!
When we see a dirty, worn bathtub we think it must be time to replace it. The truth is, most bathtubs are made to withstand the test of time and therefore, are structurally sound and intact. It is the surface of the tub that suffers the most damage over time. The paint starts to thin and wear out, leaving your tub with noticeable wear and water stains, chips, scratches and overall dullness. There isn’t a need to replace a bathtub like this, even one with minor cracks or holes. These can easily be repaired and made to look new.
Atlanta is a bustling city. New homes are going up all the time. But Atlanta is also a very historic city. Nestled between these new constructions are beautiful historic homes with tons more character than what is building up around them. We want to preserve this part of Atlanta. The homes and buildings are what gave this city its character back in the mid 1800s. It’s the city that also helped this great, American country. Preservation means pursuing. We must pursue the art of preserving this great city. One of the ways we can accomplish this is to try and renovate these historic homes and buildings without hurting the integrity of them. Bathtub resurfacing is one way we can do this.

There is no better way to build your business than by receiving reviews on your product or service. At Top Gun Applied Surfaces, we take great pride in our meticulous and professional work that we always ask our clients to review us on our website and social medial. True testimonials are the key to keeping our name out there but, more importantly, gaining the trust and business of new clients.
When you consider hiring a professional to help with your bathroom or kitchen resurfacing, always read reviews. If reviews are not readily available, ask for them. Word of mouth is always a surefire way to help make your decision on who you choose to use for your projects. By gaining true testimonials from people who have already chosen the company you are considering, you are gaining an insight into the true value of their work. Bad reviews are easy to write when you are displeased and angered but the good ones are the ones people go out of their way to write when they know a service is top notch.
When you read reviews, it is important to know exactly what to look for in the reviews.
Reading something like, “very nice service,” is definitely a good review but it is vague. What was “nice” about the service or product? You want to look for reviews that go into more depth such as:
“Keith from Top Gun Applied Surfaces was very professional. He gave me a great price and completed the work the same day he made the bid. Our bathroom looked BRAND NEW!!! We would definitely recommend him to other people and use Top Gun Applied Surfaces in the future.”
Other things to consider when reading a review include testimonials that let you know a customer was satisfied with the service. They are reviews that will be in depth and let you know the facets of the service and what the outcome was. These reviews should also reveal details about pricing, scheduling and professionalism:
“We are so pleased with the work that Top Gun Applied Surfaces did in our bathroom. They were very professional and courteous. They were able to come to our home and give us a free, no obligation estimate. After we shopped around and read other reviews, we decided Top Gun was going to give us the best service for our money. Their pricing is competitive in this industry and they were able to schedule us rather quickly. They spent a little under three hours resurfacing our bathtub and tile surround, from start to finish. I highly recommend them for your resurfacing needs. Visit their website and see for yourself the wonderful work they do.”
Read the reviews of the company you are seeking to hire for a service or purchase a product from. Doing your research is of utmost importance. Top Gun Applied Services has received reviews from many different clientele and we encourage any satisfied customer to create reviews for us. We also encourage any future clients to read our reviews. We are good at what we do and we are not afraid to show it!
Congratulations! You just bought your dream home! That cute little bungalow in Atlanta’s historic Little Five Points. When you first viewed the home, you saw that pretty little bathroom with the butterfly patterned shower curtain and sparkling black and white tiled floor. You were in love. And then you had the walk through. The owner took that pretty little shower curtain with them. What was left was a gross and nasty looking bathtub. That pretty little bathroom just turned into a nightmare. However, there is hope for reviving it without the hefty price tag to go with it.
Bathtubs are the one item in your home that see daily wear and tear, especially if they are shower/tub combinations. The more occupants of that particular bathtub, the quicker that bathtub is going to see more wear and tear. Over the years, tubs become grimy and dirty. Sometimes even scrubbing and cleaning just can’t take the years off that tub. Eventually the paint that was originally put on, wears down. Your tub can become cracked and scratched from years of neglect and/or abuse.
Older tubs were built to last. Made of cast iron, steel or porcelain. Newer tubs are made of acrylic or fiberglass, not necessarily made to withstand years of abuse. The older tubs, while most likely structurally sound, do suffer from the years of wear and tear. These tubs were definitely built to withstand the test of time. But, they definitely need a little TLC once in awhile. The newer tubs should last for years and years, but like older bathtubs, definitely need a little tweaking and upgrading over time.
No matter what age your bathtub is, there is no need to replace it. There is a need to resurface it. Hiring a professional to resurface your bathtub is the smart choice. It is cheaper to resurface than to replace and the process is quicker, easier and will last for more years to come. Why replace when you can resurface? There is hope for that grotesque bathtub and Top Gun Applied Surfaces has the answer for you. We can also resurface the tile surrounding your bathtub as well as those outdated vanities and cabinets.

The housing market in the Atlanta area is starting to come back to life. New construction is available everywhere in the city and suburbs: very expensive, new dwellings. Many buyers are snatching up old, historic Georgia properties. Is this smart or crazy? It may be a little bit of both. It makes sense to buy older homes that need some TLC. It’s cheaper and you can find these historic homes sprinkled all over Atlanta and the surrounding areas. While you can get an older home at a far better price, you still have the task of fixing it up and breathing new life into it.
Buying a fixer upper that has solid structural bones is smart. If the foundation is good, everything else can be fixed. Cosmetic repairs are fairly easy and cost effective. One of these cosmetic solutions is to repair and resurface the bathroom.
Resurfacing an old bathtub and even the tile surrounding it can dramatically change and update the look of a bathroom without having to gut the room and start over. Especially if you are trying to keep your historical home’s old charm. Refinishing the bathtub is the easiest and most cost effective solution. You can keep that rare, old tub and just breathe new life into it by hiring a professional to resurface it.
Resurfacing consists of stripping the old, worn paint off, repairing any cracks, chips or dents and applying a new surface that will last for many years. That old claw foot tub is suddenly transformed into its former glory and you have managed to retain the integrity of your older home.
Top Gun Applied Surfaces has been doing this kind of refinishing work on older dwellings for years. We know the importance of trying to bring that old charm back to your home. We can turn your bathtub into a new, usable fixture, and, we can also do the same with tiling throughout the house as well as older cabinets and countertops. Resurfacing cabinets and countertops is easier than you think. When older homes were constructed they were done so with the idea in mind that they were built to last. This not only includes the structure but the fixtures inside it. Older construction is definitely durable and has shown to withstand the test of time. Why replace what isn’t broken? Just resurface it!
Let us show you how we can help make your dream of home buying and remodeling more affordable. You can afford a wondeful house in a great neighborhood. You just have to have an open mind, a positive attitude and a Top Gun professional to show you the potential your home has!

Reglazing, or refinishing, a worn-out bathtub is an intensive process that really should only be carried out by a seasoned professional. While you can easily obtain chemicals and kits at your local Home Depot, the resurfacing task is anything but easy. Your bathroom is transformed into a spray booth for several hours. An array of chemicals are used in the reglazing process to restore existing tub and tile to an original or new state. After masking off the surrounding areas and properly ventilating the bathroom, the caulk is removed and the area sprayed down with a dissolving agent that removes any remaining caulk and etches the surface so the new finish will take.
After the surface cleaned, the new caulk is added and then the tub and caulk are dried. Fast-drying epoxy is then sprayed onto the surface of the tub with a minimum of two coats. The bathtub is cleaned again with a tack cloth to remove any elements like dust that should not be there. The tub is then coated with a polyurethane finish. Several layers of this finishing technique are added with surface sanding in between each coat. Lastly, the tub is polished and given a fresh new look.
The time-frame can take 4-6 hours, but is really dependent on the the condition of the tub prior to the restoration process. The tub need a solid 24 hours to cure before being used. This simply means that you can’t use it or run the water in the tub for a full day after the refinish.
Your “new tub” will realistically last 5-10 years. The length of time really is dependent upon how often the tub is used. If it’s a shared family tub in a hallway bathroom it will get lots more uses than a tub in a master bathroom that’s only used by one or two people.
It’s probably quite a bit less than you would imagine. Shoot us an email or give us a call and we will give you a free estimate. We can furnish references upon request as well.
