Congratulations! You just bought your dream home! That cute little bungalow in Atlanta’s historic Little Five Points. When you first viewed the home, you saw that pretty little bathroom with the butterfly patterned shower curtain and sparkling black and white tiled floor. You were in love. And then you had the walk through. The owner took that pretty little shower curtain with them. What was left was a gross and nasty looking bathtub. That pretty little bathroom just turned into a nightmare. However, there is hope for reviving it without the hefty price tag to go with it.
Bathtubs are the one item in your home that see daily wear and tear, especially if they are shower/tub combinations. The more occupants of that particular bathtub, the quicker that bathtub is going to see more wear and tear. Over the years, tubs become grimy and dirty. Sometimes even scrubbing and cleaning just can’t take the years off that tub. Eventually the paint that was originally put on, wears down. Your tub can become cracked and scratched from years of neglect and/or abuse.
Older tubs were built to last. Made of cast iron, steel or porcelain. Newer tubs are made of acrylic or fiberglass, not necessarily made to withstand years of abuse. The older tubs, while most likely structurally sound, do suffer from the years of wear and tear. These tubs were definitely built to withstand the test of time. But, they definitely need a little TLC once in awhile. The newer tubs should last for years and years, but like older bathtubs, definitely need a little tweaking and upgrading over time.
No matter what age your bathtub is, there is no need to replace it. There is a need to resurface it. Hiring a professional to resurface your bathtub is the smart choice. It is cheaper to resurface than to replace and the process is quicker, easier and will last for more years to come. Why replace when you can resurface? There is hope for that grotesque bathtub and Top Gun Applied Surfaces has the answer for you. We can also resurface the tile surrounding your bathtub as well as those outdated vanities and cabinets.

A realistic life expectancy of any resurfacing job is between 5 and 10 years. There are several factors that will determine just how long you can expect a surface to last. The condition of the surface before refinishing, how often the surface will be used and how the newly refinished surface is taken care of are some common factors. When deciding if you should replace or resurface, it is important to know how long a resurface will last so that you can decide which route is best for you. Most bathtubs, tile, cabinets and countertops can be resurfaced and their condition will determine just how long that resurface will last.
A bathtub, for example, that is badly worn will not have the same lifespan of a bathtub that is moderately worn. Chips, cracks and scratches from years of wear and tear will certainly need to be considered when deciding to refinish your tub. Most bathtubs and other surfaces that have seen years of neglect can easily be resurfaced to look new, including any chips or scratches. However, the shape it is in when resurfacing is done will predict it’s life cycle.
A newly refinished bathtub in a bathroom that serves as a guest bathroom will last longer than a refinished bathtub in a bathroom that has several uses per day. Your kitchen countertops can be expected to last a few years with resurfacing. Since it is an area that is used everyday, chips, dents and scratches are inevitable. Resurfaced tile can last far longer because most tile surrounding your tub and on your walls doesn’t see everyday abuse like a tub our countertop does.
As for care, the proper cleaners must be used and often enough so that your newly refinished bathtub or tile does not suffer from the natural damage that oils, dirt, and soap scum do. For instance, a bathtub and tile surround needs daily maintenance, especially if it is in a bathroom that is used regularly. Simple wipe downs of the surface can keep your refinishing job looking brand new for many years.
What is equally important to remember is how the resurfacing job is done in the first place. Relying on experts in the field can ensure a professional, top quality job that will play the biggest factor in how long your surface will last. Trying to do the job yourself will not have a long lifespan that you seek. Professional resurfacers use top grade supplies and equipment that only those in the industry have access to purchasing.

What is Resurfacing?
Bathtub refinishing, also known as bathtub resurfacing, bathtub reglazing or bathtub re-enameling, is the process of refreshing the surface of a worn, damaged bathtub to a like-new condition.
With a typical bathtub resurface, the process is multi-part but only takes an average of 2-5 hours to complete. First, the surface is chemically cleaned to remove oils, soap, dirt and grime. Next, any chips or cracks are repaired and sanded down for a seamless look. The tub is then etched (stripped) to remove the old surface and allow for the new surface to be applied. The new surface can then be applied and you are left with a brand-new surface to your old fixture!
What can you resurface?
When it comes to home repairs, any bathtub, vanity, countertop, tile surface and cabinetry can be resurfaced. Resurfacing can be done on almost any material including porcelain, cultured marble, fiberglass, acrylic and formica.
Why resurface?
If you are thinking about remodeling, the areas that will always add value to a house are the kitchen and bathrooms. Often, these are the rooms that have been neglected over the years because they can be costly. If you choose to resurface, you are not only adding value back into your home, you are saving yourself from a costly demolition and remodel.
How can Top Gun help you?
Although there are DIY products are available, bathtub refinishing is a probably a job best left to the professionals. Stripping an old finish off a tub, repairing and patching holes or cracks, and ventilating a room to expel the fumes produced by the refinishing process are all steps better left to a trained professional.

We all have resolutions we vow to keep going into the new year and this year is no exception. We want to lose weight, eat healthier, etc. But what about the resolutions we make to keep our home in tip top shape? We want to de-clutter and reorganize so that our homes are streamlined and things are easier to find. We should also work hard to make sure our houses are structurally sound so that we aren’t faced with major issues when they occur.
Some of the things we can do to maintain our home that don’t require a lot of time or money is giving bathtubs, counters, tile and cabinets a “refresh.” Resurfacing these key items in our home’s kitchen and bathrooms is the perfect solution.
It is important to make sure our roof is in good condition, or our electrical and plumbing is well maintained because these are key items that can destroy our bank accounts when they creep up on us unexpectedly. But keeping our house aesthetically pleasing is important as well.
Resurfacing your bathtub and changing it from that 1990’s mauve to a bright white will not only change the entire look of your bathroom. It can also protect your tub for years so that it isn’t one of those unexpected items that suddenly needs replacement. Giving that tub a new look will make you feel like you have a brand new bathroom without the fuss. However, if it is resurfaced the correct way, it will also protect your tub from future damage thus making it last longer.
Bathtubs, as well as tile, cabinets and countertops, can all chip, scratch and age with everyday wear and tear. By not protecting them, you can face having to replace them. One option of protection is by having your fixture resurfaced. Using today’s technology and high quality materials, your fixtures not only get a new look, but are coated so that they are protected from such everyday wear and tear.

Most homeowners know it is important to keep a home clean, bright and free from clutter while it is on the market. When you make the decision to sell your home, there are many factors to consider to ensure you get top dollar. You have to make sure your home is in sellable condition. At a minimum, homeowners should conduct a thorough cleaning, haul out clutter, make sure the home is well-lit and fix any major aesthetic issues. Most buyers want to look at clean, well maintained homes that are move in ready.
Realtors know how important it is to have a home in the best shape possible when showing it to prospective buyers. Some realtors even suggest staging your home, which can help prospective buyers better visualize themselves in the home. This could modestly increase the home’s value for both the buyer and the seller.
Staging a home normally consists of helping the seller de-clutter the home and bringing in furniture and accessories that will make the house look more visually appealing. Since kitchens and bathrooms sell homes, stagers may also request to the homeowner that quick updates be done so that these rooms look more current. When your bathroom or kitchen is outdated, it deters buyers because these are big ticket items that can make or break the home’s potential.
Doing complete renovations to your home’s kitchen or bathroom is unnecessary when trying to sell. It may increase the value of the home but the chances of you seeing that much of an increase in your selling price is very slim. However, quick projects can help increase the value without spending a large sum of money. Resurfacing your avocado colored bathtub and transforming it to a bright white can quickly add value to the home in less than a day. Changing the color of your kitchen cabinets and adding new hardware is both cost and time effective.
